As we enter the summer months I always start to get excited.  My Christmas in June is right around the corner and the gaming industry is hard at work generating all the hype and buzz it can as they prepare for the biggest event of the year.  The Electronics Entertainment Expo and a video game junkies bonanza of news, videos, and the teases of gaming future.  Its probably one of my favorite events of the year next to the actual Christmas holiday.
So before I just jump right in about my love for E3 lets talk a little history.  The Expo has been around since 1995. That first year was when Sony would throw there hat into the gaming ring with the announcment of the orginal Playstation.  It was also the show where Sega announced the Saturn to american audiences and said 'When can you get this console.  How does Tomorrow work for you'.  Oh yeah and what did Nintendo bring to the show.  The Virtual Boy.  You remember that thing right.
E3 has been the unveiling grounds for pretty much all the major systems and games over the last 20 years.  We have seen the birth of such franchises as Resident Evil, Halo, Metal Gear Solid, Uncharted, God of War, and the list goes on and on.
For me more than anything E3 is just a week of pure fun and excitement.  Some of my co-workers think I'm nuts taking off a whole day just to stay at home and watch the big press conferences but I wouldnt have it any other way.  This year my brothers are both coming down to actually spend the day and watch all the conferences with me.  The shared experience is what is alot of fun.  You get that immediate reaction of 'Man this game is going to be awesome' and start discussing it with the people you share your passion with.  Sony is trying to capture that this year by inviting there fans to come join them at theaters across the US and Canada to watch the show there.  Its a brillant idea and one I hope some of the other big companies start doing more often.
This year is going to be really awesome because all of the big console's have there next-gen systems out and now they need to give us stuff for those systems.  So wheter your a Xbox fanboy (guilty), a Nintendo Guy, or a Sony loyalist there's something for everyone and for a week the fans are the ones who win.  The Hype trains pulling into the station everyone.  Hop on board and enjoy the ride.
