This year Nintendo will be repeating their strategy from last year's E3 and expanding on it significantly. Unlike many gamers, I enjoy Nintendo Direct and liked what the Big N did last year and am even more excited to see the festivities this year (even if I do miss the big stage show a tad).
There will be a longer than usual Nintendo Direct starting at 9 AM PST, shows throughout the day from the folks at the Treehouse, a live stream of an official Smash Brothers Tournament Invitational via Twitch starting at 4 PM PST, and then on June 12th from 4PM to 8PM local time and June 15th from 1PM to 5PM you'll be able to play the brand new Smash yourself at participating Best Buys. The first 70 people to show at each event will even get a limited edition Smash Brothers gold coin just for showing up.
In short, Nintendo is bringing E3 to the people. But what exactly will they be showing? That my anonymous reader is exactly what we will be discussing here.
What I Want To See
One of the most fun parts of E3 is letting your imagination run wild before the show itself. Some of the following is downright fantasy, but it would be my dream E3 for Nintendo.
ZELDA, ZELDA, ZELDA - Any Zelda will do, but if the house that Mario built gives me a Zelda that looks like the sweet tech demo from a couple E3s past I will be a very happy Zelda fan. (Go ahead and go watch it. I'll wait here. Done? Wipe up the drool and let us continue!)
F-Zero - Although this one remains the most unlikely I love F-Zero and would love to see the speed and graphics of the hardcore racer come to the Wii U.
Earthbound - Even more unlikely, but what if Nintendo made every Nintendo fan's wet dream come true and released Mother 3 in the US? It's such a niche customer base, but with Earthbound coming to the Wii U eShop anything is possible right?
Metroid - A new Metroid Prime would be the cat's pajamas (didn't we just have a Mario game about that?), but I'd settle for a new 2D Metroid for the 3DS.
Golden Sun - A full fledge RPG for the Wii U published by Nintendo and developed by the good folks at Camelot? Yes please.
Smash Brothers Wii U/3DS - Specifically an announcement for Isacc from Golden Sun or Shulk from Xenoblade to be announced as contestants. I'd also settle for Dillon from Dillon's Rolling Western.
NFC Not to Suck - I'm pretty worried about this one to be honest with you. Recent rumors that Nintendo refused to dismiss seem to point to Super Smash Brothers utilizing NFC for the newest iteration. Think Skylanders or Disney Infinity Characters and you'll have an idea why I'm worried. It would have to be a very thin line that didn't milk my wallet dry or give me a piece meal game. Nintendo has been good about DLC so far, but my dearest wish would be for this to be an awesome addition instead of a costly blunder.
What I Think I'll See
Though much of this is a guess some of it is borderline confirmed and the rest is an educated guess based on a number of things.
ZELDA ZELDA ZELDA - Zelda will most certainly be making an appearance this year at E3. Nintendo would be crazy not to show off the flagship title everyone is waiting for, but don't expect for it to look like the tech demo. Eiji Aonuma, Zelda's main creative director, has already stated that the graphics will be different from what was previously shown.
Project X - I'm betting we will be seeing a nice chunk of gameplay spliced with some cinematic footage. There are also rumors circulating that it will get it's official title this E3 and be directly linked to the fantastic Xenoblade Chronicles in some way.
Retro's Project - Retro, the studio behind Metroid Prime, should be showing off their secret title they've been working on. Considering we've already got a new Donkey Kong Country, chances are high it will be a new Metroid title or even better a brand new IP.
Hyrule Warriors - Recently we've learned much more about this Dynasty Warrior's version of Hyrule and that tidbit turned it into a raised eyebrow to palpable excitement. I'm assuming we will see much more at this years E3.
Pushmo World - The eShop gym from 3DS will be hitting the big screens as announced earlier this week so it's a shoe in to be at the show.
New IP - Sure, it may be the above retro project, but we have at least one completely new teased game for the 3DS. Hopefully it will be a new IP that Nintendo can leverage.
Smash Brothers A Challenger Approaches - I assume they'll announce another fan favorite new character to join as a brawler. My hope is Shulk or Isacc of course, but I'm assuming it will be something a bit more main stream like the oft requested Mii fighter or Professor Layton.
Fire Emblem X Shin Megami - I'd be shocked if they didn't bring anything new for this crossover RPG, especially after a couple E3s filled with silence.
Yarn Yoshi - This game will likely be featured more extensively with a greater focus on gameplay. It might not be during the main Direct, but definitely showed by the Treehouse on the show floor.
Bayonetta 2 - We are sure to see more on this title from Platinum Games, probably on the Treehouse floor.
Gamecube eShop Games - I feel like this is a solid bet with the new announcement of the Gamecube controller hub and new development of Gamecube controllers. I'm fully expecting Nintendo to announce Gamecube games coming to the eShop.
Miyamoto's Next Game: I think it's highly likely that we will see the rumored next Miyamoto title as the project has been keeping him very busy. We know nothing about it aside from that he's been working from a small team and he himself said that "It's about time we brought out a new franchise". What that new franchise turns out to be is anyone's guess.
